Early Life & Challenges
Born and raised in Jitwarpur village, the heartland of Madhubani art, Mamta Devi grew up surrounded by the traditions of Mithila culture. Without formal training, she learned the craft by observing elders in her community, gradually developing a unique style that blends storytelling with intricate artistry. Her deep-rooted connection to her cultural heritage became the foundation of her artistic journey.
Breaking Barriers
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mamta Devi turned adversity into opportunity by creating hand-painted Madhubani face masks, combining safety with tradition. This initiative not only preserved the art form but also provided income to more than 50 rural families.
